project #1

today is painting day. i''m gonna paint my bedroom, which is something i've been wanting to do since i moved in. currently, my room is a bland oatmeal color. this evening it will be a tranquil light sage. i don't know the official name for this color, but i've used it in all my homes and i've had friends and family compliment and copy it in the past.

yep, today's the day. it's a baby step in getting out of my 4 year mental slump (the last time i'll use that phrase). it's time to get happy. sounds like a partridge family song, doesn't it?

before picture: (could the previous owners have chosen a more shocking white paint for the beadboard?)

tricky part: how will i move the armoire? hmmm....

okay, time is wasting and i'm getting distracted watching Roman Holiday....time to get moving!!

may i just say that set up is a bitch? okay, thanks. bye.

after pic: i couldn't resist sharing this photo at least for a day or two, then i'll replace it with a different final pic of the room. my son was hanging out in my room as i got ready for work this morning. and guess what? he's learned to read almost instantly (insert proud mom smile here). i bought him the 12 book set of Dick and Jane almost a year ago, just because they reminded me of my youth. he wasn't into them, until last month and now he can't get enough....and guess what? they really work. he's up to book 6 and is learning new reading concepts with each book. now he reads me a bedtime story each night :0)

oh yeah, and the paint.... it probably doesn't look much different on film than the before pic since this morning was so cloudy, but let me tell you, this color sets me at even. it's very tranquil and is just...me.
home project #1 - done.

so do you always color coordinate your ladders with your masking tape?

now THAT's decorating!

Can't wait to see the final project! I have a home project I'm working on right now, myself. Well, I always should have one, but this time I do: a ferret cage for SaurKid's ferret. I'll go into details once it's done. It's massive!

That's a pretty high gloss paint that they used on the beadboard. Perhaps if you toned it done a bit with with a flat white color, it wouldn't shine so much.... but then that's another project, isn't it? Well, at least with gloss paint, it is easier to clean, than with a flat white.

Good luck! Your ladder and project makes me think of how much I need to do my own home... and soon.

sook, hey, thanks for slumming at my lil blog. the tape and ladder were, of course, a serendipitous matching but your designer eye caught it right away (plus, the blue tape pulls off so much easier than the regular oatmeal hued masking tape).

saur, hope you like the final project and i'm looking forward to seeing the world's most awesome ferret habitat :0)

ellen, you are so right about the HIGH gloss. just wait until i show you the other design elements the previous owners chose. oy! i've entitle the downstairs dinning room photo "beatrix potter threw up on wallpaper", if that gives you an idea of what i get to undo!...oh, and raffia in the guest bathroom. hot glued, no less!

I love the new paint! Nice bedroom too. Don't you feel great after you're done tackling a huge project like that?

McKay,

Nice painting outfit.

I don't know if you know this or not but illegal Mexicans are great painters.

Oh good grief.... raffia hot-glued in the bedroom? YUCK! Who in their right mind would do such a ghastly thing? Bet you can't wait to change that!

Love the new color, and it looks like it might help to tone down the beadboard a bit.

Woohoo for the Dick and Jane books.... I loved them as a kid, and it helped me to become a good reader. What a cool thing that your son now reads YOU a bedtime story.

It's looks very peaceful. Here's to the end of a four-year slump. Much can change in a short time - for me, 4 (years) was a magic number... the last two years since crossing that threshold have been awesome. Dunno why, it just worked out that way. The way I see it, you're due...

Congratulations to you & your son on learning how to read! That is awesome!!

The tall flowers on the night stand and the little blonde boy perk up the room too.
